ADHD is a developmental disorder of self-control. it involves obvious problems with attention span, impulse control and activity levels. but it is also much more. if your child has ADHD, they might be low in dopamine but high in something called dopamine transporters. that's because their low dopamine might in fact result from having too many of the transporters that remove dopamine from the brain cells. ADHD brains have low levels of a neurotransmitter called norepinephrine, which is made from dopamine. Dopamine helps to regulate the brain's reward and pleasure centres. engaging in activates that make you feel happy or relaxed is thought to increase the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain.
